All Jewish children age 12 and older are invited to prepare for their bar or bat mitzvah ("call to the commandments") at Congregation Kol Shalom (the bar/bat mitzvah ceremony occurs after the 13th birthday). Young people undertake a study of Torah, Hebrew, and b'rachot (prayers) in preparation to lead the Torah service at their ceremony. This is a joyous occasion to mark the coming of age of our young people, and is a big event in the Jewish lifecycle.
